Just like there are He-Man, Super Man, Spider Man, there is an incumbent in Income Tax Dept named HQ-MAN. The best part of the IRS is that it offers you a wide variety of roles and exposure to different fields of finance and taxation world and makes you domain expert in direct taxes which is increasingly getting complex and intricately connected with the global tax structure and multilateral tax conventions. This is a welcome development for service and offers opportunity for IRS to set stage for its global recognition which is somewhat already there as several officers serving as well as those who served are working with world organizations like OECD, IMF and world Bank and top MNCs and Big 4s. This also calls for preparing the necessary skill-sets so that the IRS adapts itself with changing dynamics and delivers when called for. So, last week I completed my second year in “the Chamber” and received order for Transfer of office. For those who are less informed about career of Indian Revenue Service officers working in the Income Tax department, there is change in local transfers every year decided by the Local Placement Committee which finalizes postings in a cadre region for Assistant and Deputy Commissioner’s grade who have different nomenclatures but nature of work remains same. I assumed charge of Circle 1 (Exemptions), Kolkata on 6 th June 2016 after my transfer from Circle 26, Kolkata having office in South Kolkata. The best thing was that the office was situated in Middleton Row which is just in the heart of ark Street which is dotted with series of eateries and restaurants like famous Peter Cat, BBQ, Mocambo and bakeries Flurrys, Au Bon Pain (difficult for me to pronounce). My chamber overlooked Vidyasagar Setu far-off on Hooghly and skyline dotted by high-rises amongst which “THE 42” stands apart...

“वतन का फ़िक्र कर ज्यादा मुसीबत आनेवाली है | तेरी बरबादियों के तजकरे हैं आसमानों   में ||” भीष्म साहनी द्वारा लिखित "तमस" का नाम वैसे तो बहुत प्रचिलित था परन्तु पढने का अवसर नहीं प्राप्त हुआ| अतः, जब विश्व पुस्तक मेले में राजकमल प्रकाशन के स्टाल पर मेरी दृष्टि इस पर पड़ी तो सहसा लगा की इससे अच्छा अवसर नहीं प्राप्त होगा| भाई अमित सिंह से भी कई बार चर्चा हुई की यह बहुत ही संवेदनशील उपन्यास है और कई बार एसा उद्द्वेलित होकर एसा महसूस होगा की आगे अब नहीं पढ़ पाएँगे , हुआ भी कुछ एसा| पूरा उपन्यास पढने में लगभग 20 दिन लग गए क्युकि कुछ घटनाये और वर्णन पढने के बाद उनकी गहनता और गंभीरता आपको इतना प्रभावित करेंगी कि आपका मन विचलित हो जाएगा| उपन्यास की पृष्ठभूमि स्वतन्त्रता पूर्व अविभाजित भारत की है जिसमे आज़ादी की लड़ाई और विभाजन की राजनीति साथ साथ चल रही है| बकौल साहनी जी उन्होंने यह उपन्यास भिवंडी दंगो की विभीषता देखने के बाद लिखी क्योंकि उनके मानस पटल पर वो यादें पुनः लौट आई जिन्हें वो समय के साथ पीछे छोड़ आये थे| जानवरों  को धार्मिक तौर पर विभाजित कर जिस पृष्ठभूमि पर शुरुवात ह...

बाणभट्ट की आत्मकथा -पंडित हजारी प्रसाद द्विवेदी “जलौघमग्ना सचराचरा धरा विषाणकोट्याखिलविश्वमूर्तिना | समुदधृता येन वराहरूपिणा स मे स्वयंभूर्भगवान प्रसीदतु ||”       बाणभट्ट की आत्मकथा पढने का सबसे पहली बार विचार मन में तब आया जब कुमुद जी से “गुनाहों का देवता” के विषय में बात हो रही थी | बातो-बातो में जानकारी मिली की उक्त पुस्तक अपने ह्रदय में असंख्य मानवीय संवेदनाओ को समाहित किये हुए है और मूलतः वो बाणभट्ट की आत्मकथा  की पाण्डुलिपि का हिंदी अनुवाद है जो कि अपूर्ण है और जहाँ कही कोई सन्दर्भ उपलब्ध नहीं है वहां पर लेखक ने अन्य उपलब्ध समकालीन साहित्य का सहारा लिया है|      इस लघु आलेख का उद्देश्य पुस्तक या लेखक की अलोचना या मूल्यांकन करना नहीं है| यह एक प्रयास है हिंदी साहित्य की महान विभूतियों और उनके कार्यो को आमजन के बीच में लाने का| वैसे भी जब से अंग्रेजी माध्यम के विद्यालय बहुल हुए है तब से हिंदी और अन्य लोक भाषा के साहित्यों और जानकारों का अकाल सा पड गया है| एसा नहीं है की युवा पीढ़ी को यह पसंद नहीं है बल्कि मुख्य कारण ये है की उन्हें ...
